Documentary First Draft Feedback (And The Tweaks I Made)

My Documentary Feedback

So after I made my documentary, I uploaded it to blogger and shared it to a few people. I got them to watch my documentary and give me their feedback and here is what they had to say.

Hollie : I really liked the first part and I can tell you have been doing content creation for 6 years. It might be that less is more and you should perhaps chop down some of they end in order to create a better product.

Janek: I liked the start of the documentary and thought that it was relevant and made sense. I really liked the intro and transitions. That said I think they end part felt like 2 separate ideas put together and I didn't really understand what was happening. You could potentially cut out they end part and add some more content which is like the first part.

One thing I've noticed from the feedback is that the vlog style footage idea has flopped and people think that the documentary would be better without it. My original intention for that segment was to appeal to a younger audience and create that youthful BBC Three vibe. I did it to hopefully tick the entertain box from the BBC's 3 main rules. A lot of BBC Three programs are full of funny jokes and silly moments so I thought it would add something to my documentary. However, due to the concept not landing as well as I thought it would I am going to change the ending to my documentary to make it more fitting to the start of my documentary. I intend to change it to a more emotional and informative ending.

Firstly I filmed a new interview (in the recording studio) and made it really dramatic. I went into depth about the negative things that come with the digital world. I think this segment definitely ticks the Inform and Educate boxes (BBC's 3 main morals). I made sure to make the interview long enough to make an impact. I also used sad music in the background to set the mood.
I filmed some b-roll shots in my house and accompanied them with a voice over. I filmed myself popping some pills, pacing my room and lying on my bed to show the life of someone suffering with mental health issues. I put these shots before the interview as a way to transition between my last and current scene. I think that these shots are nice and dramatic.
Finally I added a dramatic ending where I left the room and the screen fades to black. I also added my quote at the bottom of my screen in order to create a dramatic effect. The screen fading to black also helps to transition into my end credits. When I added this segment, it slotted in nicely and you wouldn't know that it wasn't they original ending unless I told you.
