  • Camera.
  • Highly portable camera.
  • Tripod.
  • External microphone.

  • Gimbal.
  • Editing/production software.
  • Video editing hardware.
What technology do filmmakers use?
4k+3D Technology

4K technology coupled up with 3D effects has really been a key element of visually engaging action drama and sci-fi movies. This actually involves virtual reality technology and use of latest camera like the Lucid VR camera capable to shoot 3D videos with 4k resolution.
What are the three filmmaking technologies?
Film stock, video, and digital. - Film is a physical medium, while digital is virtual there is no physical product. Digital is easier and cheaper to use than film, uses less light, requires no processing and is easier to duplicate.
What is a drone? An unmanned aerial vehicle, commonly known as a drone, is an aircraft without any human pilot, crew, or passengers on board. UAVs are a component of an unmanned aircraft system, which includes adding a ground-based controller and a system of communications with the UAV.
Drones are often used to capture shots which are either in the air or looking down on a city or building.                                                                Pros : I get some really advanced shots that improve my documentary.                                        Cons : Some places don't allow drones for health and safety reasons so it could be difficult to find a place where you are legally allowed to fly one.        When it comes to the price range of drones some low end drones are only about £30 meanwhile high end drones could be thousands.

Here is a video of someone flying a drone so you can see what they do!

What does a 360 camera do?
A 360 camera, also known as an omnidirectional camera, has a 360-degree field of view so that it captures just about everything around the sphere. 360 cameras are needed when large visual fields need to be covered, such as shooting panoramas.
What is the advantage of 360 camera?
It is difficult to capture the entire space in one shot even with the latest smartphones or a DSLR with a wide-angle lens. A major advantage of 360 degree cameras is being able to shoot the space all around you and to look back at it in a more immersive way.
360 videos allow you to see angles you otherwise wouldn't see on a regular video, by dragging the screen with your mouse. This could help me get some interesting shots for my documentary. But at he same time 360 shots can be unnecessary. Just like drones the price of a 360 camera can range from £100+ depending on the quality.

The Igloo

Today I went to the Igloo to see some examples of how you can view 360 videos. There is 6 different screens that can either show multiple different videos or come together to show one big video. The video they showed us was for Ford (Cars) which went into greater depth about their history and traditions. Here are some images of the Igloo and the video I watched. The video was filmed using a 360 camera so it expanded all around the room.

Images took on phone (Samsung Galaxy S20 FE)

The Pros : You get some cool shots and can display them in their full glory, You can make realistic videos that make people feel like they are in the video.

The Cons : You can only view the 360 videos in the Igloo otherwise it will look weird. The flashing images could have tragic effects to people with epilepsy.
