My Production Diary (Documentary)
Production Diary
So my production diary is a way I can show people how I filmed my shots and why I decided to film them. I filmed all of my shots in 4k resolution on my Galaxy S20 FE with my 1X lense. I hope this will help the client get to understand the thought process behind my work.
Here is the other shots I took of the college that I intend to use for my b roll. I took shots from various angles to create different views and effects on the audiences thought process whilst they watch my documentary. I went outside and pointed my camera towards the college and made sure to capture the shots properly. I hope to mix all of these shots together in order to create a fancy scene.
These next set of shots where filmed on 02/04/22and they are going to be used at the start of my documentary. This first shot is a slow motion shot of me sitting down at my desk. I filmed this by activating slow motion mode, setting up my tripod and sitting down at my chair. I think this shot works well as an introduction shot and sets the mood very well. This shot here is an over the shoulder shot of me multitasking on 2 different devices (Snake and Youtube). I intend for this shot to shot people just how much time young people spend on technology. I filmed this by putting my tripod behind my shoulder and filming over my shoulder. I also added the slow motion effect to this clip to hopefully create a better more professional scene. I filmed this shot by grabbing a packet of crisps and leaning my camera against my tv. I activated slow motion mode to create effect and began filming. I'm using this shot of me scrolling through youtube and eating crisps as a way to show just how lazy technology has made this current generation. I hope to use all of these shots directly after each other as well as add an narrator and some music. So for the start of my documentary I'm going to have me narrating and explaining what's going on. I decided to film my voice lines in the recording studio. I recorded them with my phone and read them of the computer screen. The reason I think the voice lines are crucial is because I need to explain things to my audience so they understand what I'm doing. A lot of documentaries have some sort of narration so I thought it would make sense. I made sure to add some facts and statistics to make what I say have more meaning. This will help to intrigue my audience and get them invested in my documentary. I filmed these on 05/04/22.These shots are more b roll shots I intend to use at the start of my documentary. I filmed these on 06.04.22 and I filmed them with my tripod. I made sure to capture various different windows and views in order to add more to my b roll. I also captured a shot of an alarm clock as a suitable way to segway into the b roll. After that I filmed some shots of my bathtub and sink just to show a bit more of my house. I filmed these shots in 4k and used my 2X lense to capture some of the window shots.
I also decided to do a slow motion high angle shot of tea stirring. This shot helps show people that we are the start of the day. I filmed this by simply pointing my camera towards me stirring the tea. I personally think this shot is a nice extra to add to my documentary. This shots also helps me to display some of my technical skill to show the consumer what I can do. This was also filmed on 06/04/22.
This shot is a shot I took of me walking out of my door. I filmed 2 different angles of this shot one in my room and one outside my room. I filmed these 2 shots to show people that I am leaving the house.
I will put these 2 shots together to make it seem like I have 2 different cameras. I used my tripod to film these 2 shots. These shots help to link the documentary together and provide context on why I am leaving the house. These 2 shots where also filmed on 06/04/22.
After those shots I took some shots of me travelling. The first shot I took is a wide shot of what's going on outside whilst travelling. The next shot is of me walking into college this shot is somewhat of a secret vlog style shot and it is shot at a lower angle. I will also use these shots as a way to transition to the college scene. These shots where also filmed on 06.04.22.
These are the shots I have took of me at the compute. I hope to add a narrator and put all of these different shots together. Due to this I have took shots at various different angles to increase the amount of footage I am able to add. These shots are ranging from wide shots, medium wide shots and side shots. I took these shots on 06/04/22 and I hope to make sure I get the best out of them. Plus all of the different angles allow you to see a lot of what I'm doing.
07/04/22 Today I decided to go on top of the bridge to film some shots in order to transition the footage from college to my house. I filmed a high angle shot of some cars going down the road. I also took some shots down below of the cars so I can mix and match the shots. I think these shots will help transition my documentaries location plus it adds some more quality to my product. I filmed these shots in 4k using my 1X lense.
These are shots I have took for my content creation segment. I used 2 phones to capture 2 different angles (Galaxy S20 FE and S8 +). For these shots I used my tripod as well as some tins to lean my other phone against. I filmed these shots on 07/04/22 and I hope to mix these in with some of my talking segments. I will explain why I do content creation and why I like it. I hope that this will educate the viewer on why I do this.

For my interview shots I used my tripod to hold my phone and I made sure to get a upper torso shot. I positioned my chair in front of a fairly plain background and began speaking. I filmed these interviews on the 08/04/22 and I intend to pair them with overlaying video clips and subtitles.
I filmed this vlog style footage on 25/04/22 I filmed these shots by taking my camera outside and doing one of your regular style vlogs. I filmed this vlog in Ryhope in an attempt to show people more of my life. I used my 2X lens to film these shots. I hope to edit all of these shots together in hope to create a good segment.
As a whole the production phase was a success I had no problems and I got all of my shots with time to spare. I also learned how to do slow motion shots which shows that I am developing skills. I did my documentary solo so I couldn't just fill it with interviews which made go outside and film in public. I tried my best with the equipment I had at my disposal and that's the main thing. If I was to do my production again I would try and use some more camera angles, as well as experiment with different lighting.
